Dr. jur. Michael J. Thomas, born 1945 in Quedlinburg/ Germany, and his Chinese wife 陶小珊 Alice TAO have lived in Hong Kong since 1989.
Having studied law and economics in Kiel, Munich and Helsinki, he joined Deutsche Bank in 1975 and, from 1985, headed its Taiwan operation. In 1989 Dr. Thomas became General Manager of Deutsche Bank’s Hong Kong branch with regional responsibility for China.
In the run-up to the creation of Hong Kong’s own Monetary Authority (“Central Bank”) in 1992, he was also a member of the government’s Banking Advisory Committee.
Since 1994 Dr. Thomas is the Managing Director and majority shareholder of Deutsche Consult (Asia) Ltd., Hong Kong (share capital HKD 10 Mio.); a firm of professional trustees, specialised in the incorporation & management of Hong Kong companies and handling of all sorts of (mostly China related) business.
In 2003, he arranged Deutsche Consult’s takeover of Shanghai Star Ltd. (procurement agents & quality controllers in China since 1997), which is now a full subsidiary.
